2018-19 Home Schedule: 5 Takeaways

The ACCHL schedules have been flying out across social media, hyping both players and fans for what looks to be a promising season. Here are 5 takeaways from the IcePack’s home matchups:

1. Two PNC Arena Games

Arguably the most eye popping feature of the lineup, the IcePack will lace up twice in the comfort of the local NHL barn. All 3 games that have taken place there have garnered 3500+, and while the Stephen Russell Tourney opener may be a bit lower profile (vs. 2017-2018 #1 Seed George Washington) than the Backyard Brawls, it’s another great chance for college hockey to continue growth in the south.

2. 1st game at the IcePlex against JMU

Most diehard IcePack fans will remember the club obliterating the Dukes 8-4 back in February during the ACCHL tournament. The match will be the first time new NC State Hockey players will compete on IcePlex ice against a JMU team that without a doubt will be seeking revenge. This one is a must see.

3. No UVA Games at Home

While we’re still waiting official word on the away schedule, there are currently no matchups against the WaHoos, arguably the most daunting club in the league. State lost in both matchups last season, 6-1 at the IcePlex and 5-3 at Mainstreet Arena. It will be interesting to see if State will become the new powerhouse team in the ACCHL, with newly named ACHA All Star Sam Banasiewicz, and a strong returning Blue Line.

4. Home Finale vs. Clemson

A cross league matchup between the D3 Tigers and the D2 IcePack, the game will close out the home schedule for the guys in red and white. A tight 3-2 loss last season in Clemson

territory will provide strong motivation for returning players to dominate on home Ice.

5. ACCHL tournament in Wake Forest

While not listed on the schedule, it has been made official that the ACCHL tournament will take place in Winston Salem, home of Wake Forest University. Providing for more seating and sightlines for fans and family, The Annex promises to be a solid replacement to the beautiful Mainstreet Arena.
