Pack hope to eliminate Wake Forest in Game 2 of the ACCHL Tournament
How to watch: PackTV’s YouTube livestream, with pregame from Ethan Barry and Zak Selwaeh starting at 6:45PM.
After a hearty and healthy schlacking by both teams to their respective opponents, NC State (15-6, 8-2 ACC, 1-0 ACC Tourney) prepares to take on Wake Forest (12-7-1, 8-6 ACC, 1-0 ACC Tourney) in the second game of the end of season tournament for the ACCHL. State comes into this game now on a 6 game win streak, while Wake Forest has won it’s past two games. After an injury riddled season last season, State wants nothing more than to regain the cup for it’s seniors, while Wake Forest will be looking for one of it’s first Tournament wins in a long time.
The Scoop on the Demon Deacons
Wake Forest has had a great season to remember. Although streaky and playing more ACC games than most of the teams in the division, the guys in the yellow jerseys have proved their worth. Defeating Virginia Tech last night by a score of 8-1, it was clear why they made the tournament; great scoring, great defense, and great goaltending. That is a trio that is extremely tough to beat. Handling players like Tyler Potts and goaltending from David Ostrowski, this is going to be a difficult team to face going forward for the Icepack. But now more than ever, regular season play simply does not matter for Wake Forest. Expect the Demon Deacons to come out and show no Mercy against the Pack.
The Scoop on State
State had an incredible game last night against a very speedy James Madison, scoring 8 goals in an obliteration match. Sam Banasiewicz recorded two as well did Trevor Merchant, along with goals from Tyler Alfonzetti, Ryan Kinney, Ian O’Rourke, and Eric Todd. It was a big night for the entire team, except for a few defensive lapses from State. After season long troubles, the Pack has been able to hone in their skills and finally capitalize within the first 10 minutes of the game. The special teams looked better than ever, and Joey Hall was solid in net. State has the tools. Expect them to use them.
While the full team is here, the lineup is always subject to change. Here is a rough look:
Sam Banasiewicz (C) Eric Todd Luis Gimenez (C)
Tyler Alfonzetti Will Biberdorf Trevor Merchant
Andrew Kristof Ryan Lenzmeier Hayden Dewey
Eric Johnston Matt Costigan Eric Schwartz
Ellis Rushford Ian O'Rourke
Cam Mazikowski Chris Wing
Davis Hudson Jon Kokkelenberg
Healthy Scratches: Alex Vedetta, Eric Mura, Ian Hutchison, Will Trolle, Jack MacDonald
Keep an Eye on:
Wake Forest: Scott McKean. An absolutely terrorizing presence to the Pack throughout this season, and registering a goal last night, Scott is on fire. He does a great job of feeding his teammates and has incredible speed throughout the zone and can crash the net well. State will need to block him out very well if they want to continue.
State: Trevor Merchant. What a night last night for the freshman centerman in the Poole College of Management. A 3 point performance in his 1st playoff game is certainly something to be proud of, but he knows the tournament isn’t done. It’s still going. Trevor has his assets ready. Expect him to ride the momentum and unleash his scoring threat.
Notes: Sam Banasiewicz now has 10 goals in his past 6 games… Giminez goal streak snapped…
